Artist statement
Hourglass Series reflects on the relationship between time, language, and creative thought. The hourglass becomes a symbol of the artist’s internal process: ideas gather, fall, disappear, and return. Within the glass, letters and words replace sand, suggesting that language is the material from which the artist’s work often begins. The piece connects time not only to passing moments, but to imagination, memory, and the continuous search for meaning.
The turned wooden forms give the work warmth and craftsmanship, while the metal rods create a strong vertical structure that holds the fragile glass vessel in place. The contrast between wood, metal, glass, and scattered letters creates a dialogue between stability and movement. As the artist explains, these hourglasses are where ideas come from. When the ideas run out, the hourglass can simply be turned over and the process begins again.
