Pushing the Boundaries of Cardboard
Upcycled cardboard sculpture
2026
Artist statement
Pushing the Boundaries demonstrates that cardboard can move beyond its usual role as packaging or waste. In this piece, it becomes a sculptural language capable of expressing movement, tension, and human form. The visible seams, cuts, and layered construction are not hidden. They become part of the identity of the work, revealing the process and celebrating the honesty of the material.
By placing the real hand and the cardboard translation in dialogue, the piece shows the artist’s interest in pushing humble materials toward unexpected levels of complexity. It is both a study of anatomy and a statement about transformation: what is ordinary, cheap, and often discarded can become expressive, meaningful, and structurally ambitious.
