Artist statement

Virtue, kindness, honesty, goodness, probity, integrity, decency, morality, generosity and grace are humanity’s ultimate goal.

We don’t live in a perfect world and by all means humans are far away from perfection, but if we as individuals try to exercise at least one of these qualities of character we will change not only our conduct by earning the approval and esteem of others, but the world itself.

Virtue tries to convey this message through the novel gesture of the bust. Large laser-cut birch wood letters holding the words generosity, honesty and grace are worn as medallions, giving the bust recognition for his actions. Smaller letters throughout the base give life to phrases of guidance whose only purpose is to encourage the viewer to seek a life of righteousness.
