Artist statement

Genealogy reflects on the importance of family as the foundation of identity, memory, and belonging. The surrounding wood panels contain engraved names and historical references, creating a visual record of lineage and ancestry. These names represent the generations that came before us, the people whose lives, choices, struggles, and relationships shape who we become.

At the center of the work, colored glass marbles are illuminated from behind by an LED panel. This glowing field represents the DNA pool: the living, changing mixture of inherited traits, family histories, and genetic connections passed from one generation to the next. Each marble suggests an individual presence, yet together they form a larger constellation of family, origin, and continuity.

Through light, wood, glass, and engraved language, Genealogy becomes a tribute to family as both inheritance and responsibility. It reminds the viewer that identity is not formed in isolation, but through the names, bloodlines, stories, and memories of those connected to us.
