Matador

Artist statement

This work captures the tense moment just before the matador delivers the final blow to the bull. Constructed entirely from discarded wood objects, the piece transforms everyday materials into a powerful symbol of confrontation and ritual. The bull’s horns are crafted from the arms of a broken chair and joined by a rough log. The matador’s stick is a repurposed broom handle, while the base is a weathered board. The shoe is carefully carved from a scrap piece found at a construction site.

Through these humble found materials, Matador reflects themes of tension, bravery, tradition, and the transformation of the ordinary into the dramatic.
