Resilience

Artist statement

Resilience (COVID) is a figurative sculpture created in response to the emotional and psychological dislocation caused by the pandemic. The work depicts a student moving through campus in a state of vulnerability, exposed and uncertain, yet still determined to continue forward. He carries his books in one hand, a symbol of education, responsibility, and purpose, while dragging the coronavirus behind him like a burden he cannot escape. The figure’s nakedness suggests the loss of normal protections, routines, and social identity that many students experienced during this period. Yet the sculpture is not simply about fear or isolation. It is about perseverance. The student continues to walk because movement itself becomes survival, and forward motion becomes the only path out of crisis.
